A little of this and a little of that. I spent 3 years in the Army, fortunately my overseas time was in Germany and not Viet Nam. I attended Portland State University for about 10 years after that; I enjoyed learning but probably more enjoyed not working at a real job. During those years I worked at many jobs from cook in a fancy restaurant to doing research analysis with stints with the federal government working in finance and managing the mail room/office services section.
I finally left college and joined the working world as a teacher of 5th and 6th graders. I did that for 4 years until I got hooked on PCs in the early 80s. I wrote software for schools for a couple of years and then the federal government came looking for me. I then started working for Bonneville Power Administration in Portland where I stayed for the next 20 years. I retired in 2002. Working for the government allowed me take several weeks off during the summer for motorcycle trips throughout the west and into Canada. We have some of the most amazing and beautiful country in the Pacific Northwest. Almost as spectacular as the canyons of Salt Lake in the fall :-)
Once retired, I got involved with Alpacas, the most amazing animals in the world. In the meantime, to keep busy, I remodeled houses, raised heritage turkeys, did a bit of farming and helped my sister get her dog herding/training facility going. So as not to be bored, I started doing taxes for H&R Block and began doing mystery shopping, both of which I'm still doing.
