David Grossen Wood

David was born on July 24, 1947, to Joseph Arthur Wood and Lydia Vira Grossen Wood in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2026, after a fall.

David enjoyed growing up with two older brothers, Stephen and Richard. They all got their love of fruit from their mother. As adults they continued to stay in touch.

David graduated from East High School in 1965. A master of words, Dave was a member of the debate team at East High and the University of Utah. He served in the California South Mission for the LDS Church. After his mission, his family went on a world tour. Forever after, one of his favorite places was the Holy Land. He had a very sacred experience in the Garden of Gethsemane.

David served in the U. S. Army National Guard. He was in the 144th Evacuation Hospital Unit as a clerk typist. He graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Rhetoric and Public Address in 1971. He swept Sharon Lambson off her feet in a ballroom dance class. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 20, 1973.

David enjoyed Star Trek, Snoopy and talks by Neal A. Maxwell. David loved teaching gospel doctrine. He served as a bishop and a stake president. Dave’s years of study gave him a powerful testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which he bore often. He had a great admiration for the scriptures and the prophets of the past. He carried their messages in his heart and would quote them often from memory.

Sharon’s father and six brothers built a cabin east of Heber. It was a source of great joy for the children growing up and became a peaceful, happy place for their family to gather, watching the moose, riding on the small yellow boat on the duck pond and enjoying grandma’s buttermilk pancakes.

Dave was proud of his children. Becky served in the Colorado Denver North Mission. David enjoyed attending the temple with Becky and his wife Sharon. Since Kat and Mike worked at Lagoon, the family enjoyed many trips on employee family days. Kat also made arrangements for the family to go on a cruise to Catalina Island, Ensenada Mexico, and San Diego California in 2004 and to visit the Grand Canyon in 2015. David and Danny enjoyed watching college basketball and the Utah jazz. They also watched college football. Patricia makes everyone’s birthday special by decorating the kitchen. Mike has helped with many home, car, lawnmower and sprinkler repairs. Christine is an artist and did portraits of her mother and father’s baby pictures. Andrea served in the Russia, Rostov-na-Donu Mission. David also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Vira, and his siblings, Joseph, Frank, Janice and Stephen. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his children Rebecca, Katherine (Leroy), Daniel, Patricia, Michael (Amy), Christine, and Andrea (Kelly), his seven grandchildren, Lance, Alex, Lacey, Kylie, Tai, Jack and Leah, and his brother Richard.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 11, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake Hunter Copperhill Stake Center located at 6710 West 4145 South, West Valley City, Utah 84128. On Saturday, September 12, there will be a viewing from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center with the funeral services following directly after at 11:00 a.m.
