I loved Mrs. Stevens.  In the back of my mind I think we called her Stella, but I'm not sure.  As I reflect on the two years that I had her as my English teacher, I imagine she is the reason I chose English as my minor. She is also the reason I love to read great literature and to write.  I know I wrote a few items for the school newspaper because of her influence.  One political story was on the front page of the school paper, but I have no idea what it was about. I always loved the who, what, where, when, and why of newspaper reporting.  I ended up as the editor and writer of the Nevada Naval Academy Parent's Club monthly newsletter for four years,  I also wrote a monthly six page church newletter for my ward for several years.  As a teacher, I was a big advocate of research papers and newpapers, which I'm sure was a result of the newspaper training from Mrs. Stevens. All my classes published their own monthly newsletters every month.  I've written at least ten full binders worth of journals througout my life, and I must credit this great teacher for sparking that love of the English language.  Mrs. Stevens kindness, dedication, and strong work ethic made her a fabulous role model.  I'm grateful that she shared her knowledge and her love of teaching with me.  She will always have a warm spot in my heart.
