Obituary for Rudolf "Rudy" George Hausdorf

Rudolf George Hausdorf passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 22, 2016, in Kuna, Idaho from natural causes. Rudy was born to Rudolf G. Hausdorf and Gertrude Georgi on October 24, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was their only child. He grew up in Salt Lake City where he found his lifelong passion of electronics and mechanics by following in his father's footsteps who was a machinist. Rudy graduated from DeVry Tech in Chicago, Illinois in 1967. He later returned to Salt Lake City and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rudy married Verta Colleen Radford on June 7, 1975 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

They were blessed with two children, Karl Erich and Kim Lakay. Shortly after the birth of their children, the family relocated to Snohomish, WA and then moved to Kuna, ID in 1993. Rudy and Colleen were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and were married for 21 years until Colleen passed away from Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) in 1996.

Rudy later married Connie Sue Cook on August 28, 1999 in the Seattle, WA LDS Temple. Together they blended a warm and loving family of seven children. Rudy kept himself busy by starting his own business called Rudy's Repair. In his spare time, he served his community as an EMT and a volunteer fire fighter, as well as an amateur radio operator (HAM) with the Valley Wide REACT (VWR) group, under call sign K7SWR. With the REACT group, Rudy volunteered for 22 years helping with various community events, including Race to Robie Creek and 100+ traffic control events in downtown Boise.

Rudy also served in various church callings such as ward financial clerk, cub scouts leader, stake emergency radio communication specialist, and in the last six years of his life, Rudy and Connie found much joy and fulfillment in serving together in the Boise, ID LDS Temple. Throughout his life, Rudy loved animals of all kinds. This included dogs, cats, and various reptiles. He was the proud owner of two large pythons (16' and 14') and was known for answering the door on Halloween night with one wrapped around his neck.

Rudy loved to teach his grandchildren all the things he knew about the world. When around Papa, they were often looking up informational videos on the computer, learning about minerals and rocks either through books or climbing through caves, touring train depots, and doing various other practical skills like hammering nails into boards to keep busy. They will miss his endless wealth of knowledge.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Colleen; and his daughter Kim. He is survived by his wife Connie; children: Karl (Tausha) Hausdorf, Catherine (Richard) Witte, James (Celia) Cook, Edward Cook, Emily (Jared) Lutz, Megan Cook; their 14 grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Reno. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29 at the LDS Church located at 224 East Avalon Street in Kuna. A viewing was held at the church on Thursday, July 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Kuna Cemetery following the services.
