And I didn't know about Jane either!  I remember when she moved to Utah from California  and was so funny.  She taught me the word "bitchen" to say when something was really great.  I used it once at the dinner table, and my dad came a little unglued!  (Once and only once - I didn't know of the meaning of the root word - innocent little girl that I was!)  She was a part of our car pool and was so much fun.  So sad that she's gone.

I didn't realize that Jane was gone, nor did I realize until reading Jill's comments that Jane was the bringer of "bitchin'". Jane was the personification of all that word really meant. My fondest memory of Jane was a post East65 event. In the Spring of my freshman year I piled into a VW Beetle for a trip to D.C. and a church basketball tournament. Jane was there with her parents who were called to preside over the Washington D.C. mission. I stayed on with the Burtons  for a couple of days after the tournament, and Jane showed me around our nations capitol. It was the height of the cherry blossom season. To this day, I cannot see a cherry tree in blossom or visit D.C. without thinking of Jane. Like the cherry blossom, Jane, your beauty and charm were only too fleeting.

I love Jane Burton Loudat!  We were dear friends for many years and she was beautiful, like Kent mentioned.  Jane loved my children and worried about them with me even though she was always living abroad.  I remember her call from Okinawa when she was in the middle of a typhoon and hearing the stories of her floating around the Indian Ocean just following the tsunami in southeast Asia.  My cautious nature and Jane's less than cautious nature made us complete opposites in many ways but we cared for one another deeply.  Jane loved Lord of the Rings, having read the book and saw the movie several times.  My son, John, and Jane's nephew, Max, were best friends, too, which gave us another connection.  She was living in Sicily when she died and I've missed her ever since.  Karren Kelly Hammer

Karren, Thank you for your comments.  I was so happy to be able to read her obituary.  I totally lost track of Jane when we moved East after U graduation, so I had no idea that her life had been so full of adventure.  What an amazing woman - so full of life!

After reading all the comments about Jane, I couldn't resist sharing a few memories I have of my dear friend Jane.  I remember being with Jane as she drove down "I" street going so fast that when we hit 6th avenue our heads hit the top of the car.  (I could never tell my parents)  I remember Jane was so fun and full of life.  I remember her warm smile and "snort" and laugh.  We were at her home when we first heard the Beatles.  We didn't think they would be as good as the Beach Boys.  Little did we know.  I remember the cross country drive from Washington D.C. to Utah with Karren, SueAnn, and Jane.  We had so much fun.  What a carefree time then.  More recently, Jane came to visit Gary and and I when we were living in Southern California in the late 1990's.  One day Jane and I went to Santa Monica beach and rented a little bike pedaled surry with fringe on top, and we pedaled up and down the beach.  Jane never tired and I couldn't keep up with her.  She was so athletic and strong.  It breaks my heart that she had to suffer so much in the end.  Love you Jane and miss you.

Irene, Where were you living in Southern California? My wife is from Santa Monica, not far from the beach. Steve

Ah, Jane, I did not know of your passing.  We traveled in different circles as we got older, but we were pretty rowdy together at Uintah Elementary.  I was reminded of that often when I smiled and had that big gold piece on my front tooth.  It wasn't exactly smart to hold onto the sashes of your dress and run around as you pulled me, with my eyes closed, under the tricky bars.  We loved Elvis together and that little boy named Jimmy Curtis. We laughed  in pep club about the scars on our knees from ice slides in elementary school. You were one of a kind, Jane and I will remember you always with love and laughter!
